Taunton, MA 2011
Stimson worked with Leers Weinzapfel to design a new Trial Court that would fit into the heart of the City’s urban fabric and maintain the historic Superior Courthouse as the centerpiece of the complex. The architecture of the entry is enhanced by a renovated streetscape and an accessible entry plaza, providing public space that engages the community. The bosque of honey locust add texture to the plaza while providing shaded areas for benches. The project features a new courtyard designed as a gathering place for employees from both municipal buildings, creating a connection between new and old. The challenges of screening the service area was achieved through canopy trees, evergreen hedges and limestone clad walls that relate to architectural detail of the historic Taunton Courthouse.
