Stone Meadow occupies a coastal site of successional meadow and undulating upland on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. Ambient elements of the six-acre site’s setting create a composition of spatial sequences made legible as one moves through the property from the eastern entrance to the western edge. Native vegetation and local stone reinforce the agrarian context of the site, defined by a farm road, restored meadow, and beach plum orchard. Groves of tupelo and black locust, as well as sassafrass and cedar, reinforced old hedgerows, and stone walls shape a series of new landscape terraces for the buildings, pool, lawn and courts.
