The Integrated Design Building (IDB) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will be the new home for the Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Regional Planning, and Building and Construction Technology Departments. Bringing these four interrelated disciplines together under one roof is a bold and historic move that provides unprecedented opportunities for integrated learning about the built environment at the UMass flagship campus. Design concepts for the IDB landscape have focused on the expression of a shared environmental ethic that is legible through both architecture and the site design. In this way, the IDB landscape is envisioned as a living laboratory for learning about the built environment, intertwined with the curriculum and progressive mission of these disciplines. This project is significant to SSA in that it is the alma mater for many of our Principals, Associates and Designers, providing the opportunity to give back and remain integrated with the School.
